Stepping out of the Mist

I lived the first half of my life in a mist. I thought I could see but was blind to the sacred. At 17 a spiritual awakening turned me into an avid seeker. My ideas about God came from other people and the Bible. I read a chapter every night. At 27 I experienced a […]

The Feminine Art of Transforming A House

“I was passionate, filled with longing. I searched far and wide. But the day that the Truthful One found me, I was at home.” ~Lal Did There is a powerful force in you that urges you to grow into the whole individual you were meant to be. Jung called it the transcendent function. Both masculine […]

Coronavirus, Consciousness, and Shadow

There is no consciousness without discrimination of opposites…Nothing can exist without its opposite; the two were one in the beginning and will be one again in the end. Consciousness can only exist through continual recognition of the unconscious, just as everything that lives must pass through many deaths. Carl Jung, CW, vol. 9.I, par. 178. […]

How Do You Respond to Unwanted Change?

“The divine process of change manifests itself to our human understanding . . . as punishment, torment, death, and transfiguration.” ~Carl Jung; Alchemical Studies “At times it is strangely sedative to know the extent of your own powerlessness.” ~Erica Jong “Put your ear down close to your soul and listen hard.” ~Anne Sexton Welcome to […]

Sacred Laws of Psyche: The Connection Between Opposites

When you were a child, your parents taught you to see things dualistically, in terms of either-or, good-bad. They did this to socialize you into the norms of acceptable behavior and keep you safe. A Path With Heart

Here’s a spiritual truth I’ve learned through personal experience. Without self-knowledge, all the offerings of organized religion — group worship, teachings, scriptures, retreats, sacraments, guidance from helpful religious professionals — and all the correct beliefs, good intentions and divine interventions we can experience are not enough to transform us into spiritually mature beings. Why? Because there is no such thing as spiritual maturity without psychological awareness!

Aging and Becoming

Aging and Becoming is not a work to rush through. It is contemplative reading, packed with thoughts to savor slowly, like a leisurely conversation over coffee with a beloved friend. It will activate your ego’s awareness of your soul’s natural condition: an appreciation for wonder, mystery, and curiosity, and a natural knowing of the rich meaning and potential of your life.

An Interview with the Center for Jungian Studies of South Florida

Tree of Life: A Dream of Returning Light and Hope

What follows is copied from this morning’s dream journal. It seems a fitting post for the holiday season this year. May you find meaning and hope in it during this dark, chaotic time. Dream #5,000: Tree of Life I’m in a room in which someone has set up a small square table, like a card table, […]
